The commemoration of this year's World Cultural Day in the State was celebrated with pump and glamour by the Cross River State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture as well as the Department of Culture and Heritage, with colorful scintillating dance parades.
Joining millions of others around the world to embellish their identities with cultural troops, the beautiful parades of dances and culture started from the Millennium Park to the Okoi Arikpo House, where the Ministry and Department are domiciled. The Parade was to mark the World Cultural Day slated for the 21st of May every year as recorded in the Tourism calendar.
Opening the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and the Tourism cluster head, Mrs. Eme Affiah, asserted that the sector is joining Nigerians and the entire world to celebrate the culture of Cross River State, Nigeria and the world.
"Everyone present from the Ministry and the Department is dressed in their local cultural attire and some people dressed in other cultural costumes to represent other parts of the State and in Nigeria, as part of the sector's little efforts to ensure they register our State's participation on a day like this," she added.
Speaking further, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Culture, Mr. Effiom Edet lauded Governor Bassey Otu for providing the platform for these celebrations, stating that culture is the only medium that brings unity between people and Communities.
High points of the event was a display of dances to showcase Edo culture, moninkim from Ikom, Ekombi from Efik, Yakurr, Mbube by the 2024 Miss Bichong Ifife, Abi, Obudu and Biase war dances.
